The Vintage Computer
Festival (VCF) East 5.0 will be held September 13-14, 2008 at the InfoAge
Science Center located in Wall, New Jersey. VCF is not like any other
computer show!! It is a * celebration * of computer history from the 1940s
to 1980s. The event includes hands-on exhibits and demonstrations of
vintage computers, from punch-card machines to minicomputers to Altairs to ....
well, anything EXCEPT those boring modern beige boxes. There are also
computer history lectures (on Sunday one of
the speakers will be Bill Mauchly, son of ENIAC co-inventor John Mauchly)
and this year there's a workshop about how to build a working replica of
legendary Apple 1 (sign up in advance for
that). Tickets to the event are only $10 per day or $15 for both
days; parking is free. Please see our event flyer at <A

science students!! Nothing can make undergrad comp-sci students code
better or create better architectures or UIs than gaining a solid understanding
of the past. Imagine an antique car show where all the owners let you test
drive their cars! That is what the VCF is like .... so please help spread
the news of this not-for-profit event. The event's primary sponsor is a
local user group called MARCH -- "Mid-Atlantic Retro Computing
Hobbyists".
